Within the vibrant spaces of Isola in Catania, Antonio formed the first operational team: Francesca De Marco, Chiara Crisci, Elena Militello, and Carmelo Traina. Their mission is to gather 300 Pioneers—individuals united by their love for Sicily—who would decide to contribute financially and share their expertise by December 18, the founding date of the Foundation. Together, let's embrace the spirit of Sicily with Mediterranean passion and commitment to inspire cultural, community, environmental, and innovative endeavors.

The Wave of Marea

During the June edition of Make in South in Isola, at the Culture coalition event, Andrea and Florinda from Farm Cultural Park presented Antonio with a representative piece for Marea: 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa.' This instantly became a defining symbol of the Foundation and the first tool to convey its unique identity. Through this magnificent artwork, Fondazione Marea continues to inspire an inclusive community spirit with a Mediterranean flair, blending culture, environment, and innovation.

The first public presentation by Marea is an exhibition that envisions a dystopian future for Sicily, where a ministry governs departures and citizens are divided into the Differently Present and the Remaining. Hosted by Farm as part of the biennial 'We have everything, but we lack the rest,' curated by the artists Elisa Raciti and Alessandra Rigano.

Through intense work throughout the summer, spreading the word and building connections, the first 50 memberships have come in, not only from those who, living afar, wished to strengthen their bond with Sicily, but also from those living in Sicily wanting to be architects of change, and even from those who, despite not having Sicilian roots, feel a deep connection to this land.

The first temporary version of the website goes live, telling the story of the Fondazione’s project. The first online post is published and goes viral immediately, sweeping through LinkedIn with a great wave and a call to join and become part of the project.
