Our Story
FROM VISION
TO FOUNDATION
The first public presentation by Marea is an exhibition that envisions a dystopian future for Sicily, where a ministry governs departures and citizens are divided into the Differently Present and the Remaining. Hosted by Farm as part of the biennial 'We have everything, but we lack the rest,' curated by the artists Elisa Raciti and Alessandra Rigano.
Almost halfway to the goal of 300, Fondazione Marea embarks on its first tour starting across nearly all of Sicily, then Italy (Milan, Rome), and finally the rest of the world from New York to London and all the way to Brussels. Hundreds of Sicilians at heart... are touched by the vision.
423 pioneers, united by a shared love for Sicily, gathered to officially bring the Fondazione Marea to life. In Catania, the city that nurtured the seed of this vision, many were physically present, while others from every corner of the world joined virtually to share in this historic moment.
The 423 pioneers of Fondazione Marea
Sicilians by origin, by heart, and by adoption, some have stayed on the island, others have returned, and many live elsewhere, yet all share a deep desire to contribute to the future of this land.
